Mayor of the City of Oshawa

Biography

John Gray served as a Councillor for both the City of Oshawa and The Regional Municipality of Durham for nine years prior to being elected as Mayor of Oshawa in November 2003. Mayor Gray was re-elected to a second term on November 13th, 2006.

Since being elected as Mayor, John Gray has led an ambitious campaign of revitalizing the City of Oshawa. Located in the fastest growing region in Canada, the City of Oshawa is identified by Statistics Canada as having the highest household income average of any Canadian municipality and is projected by the Conference Board of Canada to lead the country in economic growth for the next five years. Mayor Gray’s two highest priorities as mayor are Downtown revitalization and the renewal of Oshawa’s waterfront. Whereas Oshawa’s downtown is experiencing a successful rebirth, Mayor Gray believes the potential for Oshawa’s waterfront is also soon to be realized.

Mayor Gray sits as Chair of Durham Region’s Planning Committee and Oshawa’s Waterfront Coordinating Committee. The City of Oshawa, for the first time in its history, has a Community Strategic Plan and a Strategic Financial Plan that prioritizes the city’s capital infrastructure and financial resources into strategic long-term planning.

He is married to Bonnie and they have two children, J.J. and Heidi.
